Preschool Playdate - Uno

Fridays are reserved for Playdates and Field Trips
Today was our very first Playdate.
Here is what they played:

The kids played with the Uno Attack Game.
They thought it was so much fun that the game shot cards at them,
then they would hold up the card and yell the color.
They came up with that all by themselves and played for about 30 minutes.

We built a monster sized train track.

They played outside in the car and played jump rope as well.
They jumped over the "waves" and across the "slithering snake"
as I wiggled the rope up and down or sideways.
We sang Ms. Mary Mack and Cinderella Dressed in Yella.

Bubbles were fun to blow and pop.
Then we went in and had snack.
It was a fun morning for a preschool playdate.

Welcome Song
(Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)

_______________ is here!
(Child's name)

Pledge of Allegiance

The kids looked at the flag and learned how to
put their hand over their heart.
Then we recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rules
We walked all around the house to find where the kids were allowed to play,
go to the bathroom, eat snack and keep their water bottles.
We talked about having an inside voice, sharing and being kind to each other.
We also learned how to raise our hand when we want to speak.
Then we sang the Rules Rap.

Rules Rap

Rules can be helpful
Rules can be good
They help us behave
The way we should.
We follow the rules
And we don’t do wrong.
The world’s a happier place when we all get along.

Calendar
Sing days of the week and months of the year

Weather & Song:
The kids were so cute, when they went to the window to see what the weather was like, they said it was dark.  We live in sunny Arizona, but this morning it was cloudy and rainy.  I loved their reaction to the weather.  My weather card for rain was just perfect.  I told them to come find the "dark" one.

I had them tap their fingers on the desk to sound like raindrops, then we sang some songs about rain.
The first one was about catching raindrops in their mouth.  They wanted to sing it twice, so we did.

If  all the raindrops

If all the raindrops
were lemon drops and gum drops
Oh, what a rain that would be!
Standing outside, with my mouth open wide.
Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah,
If all the raindrops
were lemon drops and gum drops
Oh, what a rain that would be!

Then we talked about jumping in puddles and sang Little Raindrops.

Little Raindrops

Pitter patter, splash and splatter
Little raindrops.
Pitter patter, splash and splatter
Everywhere.
Pitter patter, what's the matter
Little raindrops?
Can the sky be crying
'cause the sun's not there?

The last song I played on the piano and they pretended to dance in the rain.

Show and Tell
The kids get to bring show and tell everyday.  It is so fun to hear about their stories.

Alphabet Song:
The kids worked together with a little help from me
to try to put the Alphabet  Puzzle in order while we sang the ABC song.

Letter of the Day

Show a Bus and ask what letter sound does it start with?
We used the leap from school bus.
We also sang  the Bb sound song.

B says "buh"
B says "buh"
every letter makes a sound.
B says "buh"

Sing the Wheels on the Bus with all the actions:
The wheels on the Bus go
Round and Round,
Round and Round,
Round and Round,
The wheels on the Bus go
Round and Round,
all through the town.

The horn on the bus goes
Beep, Beep, Beep,
Beep, Beep, Beep,
Beep, Beep, Beep.
The horn on the bus goes
 Beep, Beep, Beep
all through the town.

The wipers on the bus go
swish, swish, swish,
swish, swish, swish,
swish, swish, swish,
The wipers on the bus go
swish, swish, swish
all through the town.

The driver on the bus says
move on back,
move on back,
move on back.
The driver on the bus says
move on back,
all through the town.

The people on the bus go
up and down,
up and down,
up and down,
The people on the bus go
up and down,
all through the town.

The babies on the bus say
waa, waa, waa,
waa, waa, waa,
waa, waa, waa,
The babies on the bus say
waa, waa, waa,
all through the town.

The Mommies on the bus say
Shh, shh, shh,
Shh, shh, shh,
Shh, shh, shh,

The Mommies on the bus say
Shh, shh, shh,
all through the town.

9:30 am

Learning Time
Learn to hold the pencil
One child knew how to hold the pencil but the others struggled,
so we will continue to practice learning to hold it correctly.

Write and trace the letter B
I showed the kids how to write the capital B on the dry erase board.
They practiced on the worksheet.
I said, "To write a Big B,
you start at the top and draw a line straight down,
then you make it have a big head
and then a big belly."

Everyone giggled but they will remember how to write a "Big B"

Then on the worksheet it had a lowercase b to trace as well.
I told them that "little b" only has a big belly.

Thumbprint Bb in bus  Worksheet

I let everyone choose their own mini stamp pad
and then had them put a thumbprint or fingerprint on all of the  Bb's on the bus.
This was a favorite activity.

Trace the #3 Worksheet
I asked how many kids were in the class?
Then I counted each one and they all said, "3."
Then I had them trace the 3 on the worksheet.

10:00 am

Reading Time

The kids snuggled in their blankets and we got ready to read.
Meet the Buddies! and Go Dog Go!

10:30 am

Snack Time

The kids made  their own butter fly snack.
I prepared pretzels, Kix, raisins, fruit snacks, broken graham crackers in little 3 oz. cups.  Then they could add as much or as little into a sandwich bag.  When they were done we wrapped the middle of the bag with a pipe cleaner to make the body and feelers.  The snack was a hit.

11:00 am

Music Time

After snack time we had about 10 minutes of free time before starting music time.  So I told the kids they could find a toy in the toy closet to play with.  As I was cleaning up snack area I was surprised to see that all of the kids had chosen musical instruments and were playing them.  When I finished cleaning, I went to the piano and played a classical children's piece.  They played along and danced to the music and asked for more.  We spend about 20 minutes playing classical music and dancing.  It was wonderful.

Then we sang the wheels on the Bus with all of the actions again.

The kids picked out drums and we learned some rhythm.

Mud Turtle, Elephant, Penguin

11:30 am

Craft/Free time

We made a school bus with yellow paper.
I drew an outline of a bus and had the kids cut it out.
We will need to work on cutting skills only one child could really cut and she nearly cut her bus in half she was having so much fun with the scissors.  Then they glued on black paper wheels.  Last they drew friends in the white boxed to glue onto the bus for windows.

We had about 15 minutes of playtime after the craft.
The kids had so much fun on their first day of Preschool.
My daughter giggled and talked all day about her experience.

12:00 pm

Go Home

We packed up backpacks and cleaned up toys.
Then they went home.

Friday will be our first Preschool Playdate at my house.  They will have the chance to play for two hours. I can't wait!
